The Stress of Multitasking
It’s fair to say that we live in a highly technological age. With computers, the internet, cell phones, MP3 players and so on we’ve never had so much access to information and entertainment. Sitting here right now as I type this I’m also listening to Elvis Presley. This is of course only a mild form of multitasking but when taken a little further multitasking isn’t the time saving talent that many believe it to be.
In the past I was someone who tended to try and do too much at once and it effected me negatively in a number of ways. The biggest problem is the lack of focus and attention you pay to any one individual task. This results in every job you’re doing being only half finished or completed well below your maximum ability.
Let me give you an example. Lets say that you’re at your computer working on balancing your finances. At the same time you’re texting a friend to ask them what they’re doing. You’re also updating your Facebook status. While you do that you’re listening to the news on the radio. On top of all that you have TV on keeping up with the latest football scores. Do you think with all that going on you’re going to be able to adequately sort out your finances? Absolutely not.
Not only can multitasking ruin your ability to focus but it causes an immense amount of stress, with this being Relaxation Haven we can’t allow that can we?
You’re demanding too much out of your brain and it responds by producing a constant flow of adrenaline as well as other stressful hormones to try and keep you as alert as possible. Sooner or later though it gets on top of you and you end up feeling run down and ill.
Taking The Stress Out of Multitasking
The best way to avoid all this stress is simply not to multitask. If we go back to my example above how many of those jobs needed to be done? Just one and that was the finances. Get that job done first and foremost before you even begin to think about other things. Since you are giving it your full attention you will do a better job and you’ll finish it quicker too. With that done then you can take the time to catch up with friends or the latest goings-on in the world.
Whenever you have a few jobs that need completing take a deep breath and ask yourself which job is most important – then do that first and put the rest to the back of your mind. Go down this mental list in order of importance until you have finished every job. This is a much more efficient way to work; you will find it actually saves you time.
By avoiding multitasking you will evade unnecessary stress and make more time for yourself to relax and unwind.
That is the ultimate win-win situation.

I found your site on google, great site, keep it up. Will return in the future. Submitted this post to Google News Reader.
Stress in general is super annoying and hard to deal with. Multitasking can put extra stress on you when you don’t need it so try not to over do it.
