One of the main reasons that people begin to feel stressed and anxious is because they feel like there’s not enough hours in the day to get everything they want done. One solution to this is creating more time for yourself by waking up earlier.

The idea is to wake up early and get more things done in the morning, while the rest of the world is still asleep, leaving less for you to do in the evenings when you’re tired. Think about how many times you think “I’ll do that later” and then forgot about until the next day. These small tasks build and build until they become a cause for stress and anxiety.

While no-one expects you to wake up at 4am every morning even if you wake up just one hour earlier that is a full hour to get jobs done where you will have little to no other distractions.

Some people find it hard to change their sleep patterns and this is understandable, as they are the result of years of routine…or non-routine in some cases. So how do you change your internal clock so that you can wake up earlier?

Well there are a number of techniques that can be helpful but the most important and obvious one is that to wake up early you also need to go to bed earlier. This may sound counter-productive in some ways since the idea of waking up earlier is to get more things done, however the vast majority of people are at their most productive shortly after they’ve woken up and then decline gradually as the day goes by. Waking up early gives you an extra hour or so before you have to go to work to get things done around the house, or even get a head start on work you have to hand in to the boss. Imagine how impressed they’d be with you handing in your assignment at 9:00 am whenever they give you a project. That’s the type of impression that can lead to promotions and pay rises!

Besides going to be earlier there are many other ways to help yourself wake up earlier. Most people have an alarm set for a specific time and while this is a good idea it can work even better if taken a step further. Try placing your alarm at the other side of your bedroom so that when it goes off you have to get up to switch it off. This makes it much more likely that you won’t just go straight back to sleep. Also have a glass of water next to your bed so that you can have a drink as soon as you wake up, this will hydrate and energize your body immediately.

You should also relax as much as possible before you go to sleep at night. A long soak in the bath and a book will help you to unwind and this in turn will allow you to enjoy a deeper, most restful sleep so that when you wake up you are ready to get up and get on with your day.

The biggest battle in waking up early though is the one with your mind. The alarm goes off at 6:00am and there’s an argument going on with one side saying “Come on! Time to get up!” while the other side is saying “Urghhh…let’s go back to sleep”. One of the best ways to win this battle is with self hypnosis. You can program your mind and convince both sides that it is much more beneficial to wake up early in the morning. Our friends at HypnoBusters have a great session called Wake Up Early that will relax you before you go to bed and strengthen your desire to wake up early.

Remember, the more you get done early on, the more time you have to relax later on.

To achieve complete relaxation with self hypnosis you need the perfect set-up. This differs from person to person as I understand yet there a few pieces of advice I can impart on you.

No matter which way you look at it, in the modern world stress is simply a fact of life. As technology moves ever onwards while our life is made easier in some ways, it also means we are more bombarded with information, messages and requests than ever. Right now as I sit at my computer my cell phone has just received a text and emails are constantly rolling in. You would think the mind never has a chance to fully switch off, but thankfully that is not true. Amongst the many relaxation techniques out there I have always found self hypnosis the most helpful.

I won’t talk today about how to perform self hypnosis as I know that that has already been covered at Relaxation Haven. What I would like to talk about though is how to get the very most out of self hypnosis when you use it for relaxation. To achieve complete relaxation with self hypnosis you need the perfect set-up. This differs from person to person as I understand yet there a few pieces of advice I can impart on you.

To begin you want a quiet, peaceful room where you can be sure you won’t be disturbed. To add to the relaxing atmosphere you may wish to lower the lighting and light some incense. This will all add to the relaxation of your self hypnosis session.

While you are performing self hypnosis and feeling completely relaxed there is an NLP techniques you can use so that whenever you feel stress during your daily life you can immediately calm yourself down and begin feeling relaxed once more. When you are at your most relaxed during self hypnosis consciously touch the tip of your index finger over the tip of your thumb and say to yourself mentally “I am completely relaxed”.

This is known in NLP as anchoring. Your mind will now associate the act of touching your index finger to your thumb with the feeling of utter relaxation. Now when you are at work or at home and you feel any sort of stress you can simply touch your index finger to your thumb and think “I am completely relaxed” and you will immediately begin to feel the waves of relaxation wash over your mind and body.

I hope you will find great success with this technique and you will continue on your quest for more knowledge about NLP, self hypnosis and relaxation.

If you follow the advice below your skin will noticeably improve and stay looking young.

One of the biggest causes of premature aging is stress. Because we live in a fast paced world it can be easy to live life at 100mph without every taking a break. When you feel stressed your mind activates its survival instincts, a throwback to our more primitive days. This survival mode directs blood to the more essential organs needed to live. The skin isn’t one of these “essential” organs and neither is the digestive system. This means that not only does your skin suffer directly but you are also failing to intake the proper nutrients required to maintain youthful looking skin.

Retain your youthful looks.

So it’s clear that to stay looking young you need to relax and reduce your stress levels. If you follow the advice below your skin will noticeably improve and stay looking young.

1. Sleep

Sleep helps to rejuvenate the body and mind, meaning everything functions better. This includes the health of your skin. Typically people require from six to eight hours sleep a night. If you struggle with your sleeping patterns you may want to look at another article – Ways To Sleep Better.

2. Diet

Your skin needs the certain nutrients to keep its youthful appearance. To make sure you are getting these nutrients you should up your intake of fruit and vegetables while reducing the consumptions of salty or sugary foods. Omega fatty acids such as those found in fish are also incredibly beneficial to your skin so you should aim to try and eat at least two or three portions of oily fish a week.

3. Exercise

Exercise is one of the cornerstones of any health regime. It even has a positive effect on your skin. Exercise has been shown to lower stress levels and is well known to give people a “healthy glow”. Just thirty minutes of walking a day will visibly improve your skin. One point of note though is that sweat contains salt, so after working up a sweat you should make sure to wash it off with warm water.

4. Facial Massage

Treat yourself to a few bottles of massage oil. Every night you can gently massage the oil around your face (be careful around the eyes). This relaxes the facial muscles and stimulates blood flow.

5. Relaxation Techniques

There are a number of relaxation techniques you can use to improve your skin and stay looking young. Perhaps the best of all the options is hypnotherapy. Not only does hypnotherapy relax you but you can get sessions specifically catered towards skincare. For example HypnoBusters have Sensation Skin Hypnosis and Hypnotic Botox MP3s that can work wonders. This can be listened at bedtime, they will also help you drift off to a deep, restful sleep.

50. Don’t multitask! 49. Sing in the shower. Go ahead, no-one’s listening.

50. Don’t multitask!

49. Sing in the shower. Go ahead, no-one’s listening.

48. Look in the mirror and smile. Don’t laugh though or you might hurt your feelings.

47. Whenever you feel stressed about a situation ask yourself, “Will this matter in a years time?”. The answer is probably no.

46. Pet your pet. It’s what you got them for!

45. Play some relaxing music in the background.

44. Have one day a month where you avoid electronics. Phones, TVs and computers can over-stimulate the mind. This will also give you a full day of quality “me time”.

43. Stretch your muscles out for five minutes. This will leave you feeling calm, loose and relaxed.

42. If you’re having a difficult time talk to a friend about it. A problem shared is a problem halved.

41. Spend a night wrapped up on the coach watching your favorite TV show or DVD.

40. Ask your partner to give you a back massage. If you’re single you could treat yourself and go to a spa with friends.

39. Go for a walk and get some fresh air.

38. Before you go to bed have a warm drink, this will help you drift off to sleep.

37. Turn off anything that makes a noise and appreciate the silence.

36. Think about things in your life that make you happy and resolve to do them more often.

35. Dance around the house to some upbeat songs.

34. Don’t watch the news before going to bed. It causes anxiety and can disrupt your sleep.

33. Take the time to put your feet up and relax with a cup of tea or coffee.

32. If you’re busy at home turn off the phones so you won’t get interrupted and the work will be finished quicker.

31. Whenever you feel tense step back and take ten slow, deep breaths.

30. Light a scented candle and enjoy the relaxing aroma.

29. Writing is therapeutic so try starting a journal. Write about whatever you want but try to end it on a positive note.

28. Take a nap. Not only will this refresh you but people who nap tend to have a better memory than those who don’t.

Why don't you go for a walk...after reading this list of course!

27. Learn a new skill. This will invigorate your mind and give you a new sense of energy.

26. Cut out any activities in your life that you don’t enjoy and aren’t necessary.

25. Buy yourself a stress ball or Chinese worry balls and go to town on them.

24. Lie down in the sun, but don’t forget to protect yourself with sun block.

23. Consciously relax your face muscles and allow your shoulders to drop.

22. Hit something. Note I said “something” not “someone”!

21. Look up at the sky and allow yourself to daydream.

20. Go somewhere new. It doesn’t matter if it’s 10 minute or 10 hours away.

19. Wear comfortable clothes. If you have a 40inch waist don’t wear 38 inch jeans because of a vague sense of vanity.

18. Tense all the muscles in your body and then let them go limp.

17. Hydrate yourself properly with a glass of water.

16. Find a spare moment to tell yourself “I am a calm, relaxed individual” over and over in your head.

15. On nice days leave the office and eat your lunch outside.

14. If you want to cry, CRY! Releasing emotions this way will make you feel much better afterwards.

13. Take your children or dog to the park.

12. Have a soak in a nice, hot bath.

11. Open up a few windows and let the fresh air energize you.

10. If you take sugar in tea or coffee start to slowly cutback. Go from two teaspoons to one, then once you’re used to that from one to none. Sugar causes hyperactivity and anxiety.

9. Constantly change up your daily routine. A change is as good as a rest.

8. Before you start a big task jot down exactly what needs to be done in order. This will focus your mind and help you to avoid stress.

7. Cut down on meat and processed foods and replace them with fruit, vegetables and nuts.

6. Visit the local library. It’s guaranteed to be quiet and you might just find a book that you can relax with while reading.

5. The hypnotic state is an extremely relaxing one. So why not download the free Deep Relaxation Hypnosis MP3 here on Relaxation Haven or…

4. Buy a relaxing hypnosis session from a reputable online resource such as HypnoBusters.

3. Start participating in a yoga class. You’ll improve your fitness and flexibility plus get to meet new people.

2. Take 10 minutes in the morning to meditate.

1. Come to Relaxation Haven and we will teach you about methods of relaxation as well as provide great videos and audio.
